The Addiction Continues...But Wait There's More!!!

Tis the season for warmth with family, joy with friends, lots of good food, a month full of parties and lots of good cheer!!!  Mix all these ingredients together and its a time to enjoy everything good, reflect on the past year and think ahead of the new year heading our way.  And it surely is a time to shop...shop...and shop.  The bargains are in overflow mode, stores are bursting with merchandise and everything is on sale.  Back in the day nothing ever was on sale until "after Christmas sales", but that sure is not the case in this century!!
Since my last posting I have been doing lots of shopping but I'm going to share a little differently...as you shall see, just quantities and savings...so here we go!!!
TJ MAXX-Bought 6 items...2 different visits, total savings of $86.  This is always a winning "stop and shop" for me!
DILLARDS-purchased 2 items at the same time, total savings of $34.  This is always a "hit or miss", you just never know!
MARSHALLS-3 items bought at one time, total savings of $54.  We finally got a Marshalls connected to HomeGoods...life just got better!
GAP OUTLET-6 items bought...one visit and with a 40% off coupon(thank you to "friends and family") giving me a savings of $67.  Love the Gap Outlet for all my "blue jean" needs!
MEIJER-2 items bought, don't know the savings.  True confessions here now...I really like their Falls Creek brand pants and I got a great black dressy skirt there.  Quality is nice and who would ever even know!.
WALMART-purchased 1 pair of black pants, $5 savings.  Another confession, I really like the "George" brand black pants, they are nice as dress pants, casual pants for work and the price is fantastic...black pants are a staple in anyones wardrobe and at this price splurge and get 2!
STEINMART-6 items bought at 4 different times, with a total savings of $298.35.  But wait there is more.  Saw a really cute slinky material vest on the 75% off rack...so this is how this discount went...retail for $68, and here are the markdowns, $34.99/slash, $25.94/slash, $16.95/slash, $7.96/slash...it lands on the 75% off rack and I buy it for $1.74, that is a $56.26 dollar savings!!!  SteinMart -always #1 in my shopping world.
...And now onto this other continuing problem of mine called addiction.  Still heavily addicted to Candy Crush, don't see that changing in the near future.  I'm am so stuck on level 181, it's tough,  frustrating and a little exasperating but there is now a new Candy Crush called Soda Crush.  Yes of course I'm already involved in this game.  When level 181 drives me batty I can now escape to level 30 in Soda Crush.  It is really good when a great plans fits well and comes together nicely.
Don't believe that this addiction stops with the "Crush" family cuz it doesn't!  After deciding that "regular" TV shows just wasn't cutting it for my "R & R" palette, I ventured over to cable and then from cable I landed in the world of Netflix.  I understood all the movies and such available but I never explored the shows that had episodes.  So I did and that led me to "Royal Pains".  I love this show and it offered 75 episodes for me to watch at my leisure.  Well I blew through those shows, these are 43 minutes of comedy, drama and soap-opera stuff.  I get so involved in the characters that I can't wait to watch the next one and so on!!!  Now all I can do is wait till the new episodes are added.
And I watched all 66 episodes of  "Revenge"...yes another awesome show that I've thoroughly enjoyed, it's the best "go-to" for TV.  It's available to you anytime you are available!!!  Yep, again I get involved in these characters lives, loves and hates!!!
And now I'm very involved in the show "Parenthood" with 90 episodes and I'm already on 56.  Yep now I'm in full love with the "Braverman" family, all their highs, lows, loves, hates, holidays, boyfriends, illness and the drama goes on!!!  Yes this is what Netflix has done to me...help!!!
I guess I could seek help and see a "professional" so we could analyze my addiction problem, but really, what would they say?  Do something more productive with your time, read a good book, take a nighttime class etc...etc.  But don't think that will happen because the addiction is strong and I feel that I have ties to my shows...it puts me in a calm and happy place.
And there is always good news...at least my addiction is not involving drugs or alcohol.  I'm not running to a casino and losing my "house payment" money.  Mine is good clean fun right in the luxury of my own home.  But when I plop myself down for a night with the "Bravermans" I do have choices to make and that is very tough, such as...
*chex mix tonight or Coffee Hagen Daz ice cream
            *1 episode or 2
*how much Candy Crush to play
*and...dare I watch any cable and venture out of Netflix
Maybe I should revisit that professional help idea??

Candy Crush...Can You Be My Friend and My Enemy???

So this is the time to admit and confess a really bad addiction that I am totally enjoying to the max!!!  Asking my self, "how does one fall into this lifestyle with no regrets?"  If it consumes more of your time than it should...is that okay?  And is it okay to enjoy it so much??  I believe the answers to all questions has to be YES!!!
And now to reveal this time consuming, pure enjoyment, cant' get enough of problem.  Its all about Candy Crush...there I said it and put it out there that I am totally addicted.  From the moment I decided to play, I knew I was in trouble, let's review why:
      1.  First of all, I like it too much!!!
      2.  Yes, it does take up a lot of my valuable time, but I don't care!!!
      3.  Every level you complete takes you to another one more challenging, this I love.
      4.  There is about 300 levels, I'm on 162 so I have lots more to enjoy!!!
      5.  It's exciting, thrilling, frustrating, exasperating...its da bomb!!!
      6.  My perfect weeknight evening...watching a good movie and playing candy crush.
      7.  I play Candy Crush anywhere I can...not normal!!!
      8.  Someone needs to start a Candy Crush Support Group...count me in!!!
      9.  This helps to use your brain muscles along with hand & eye coordination...good stuff!!!
So after giving all the good points to playing, which all make perfect sense to me, let it be known that I have no plans on quitting...I need to play this game!!!  Let's review why:
      1.  It brings me lots of enjoyment, relaxation, a competitive edge and its fun.
      2.  I like a "go-to" thing and this just happens to be a game on my phone.
      3.  It's purely cheap entertainment at your fingertips at any time.
      4.  Time flies by like crazy when I get involved in this game.
Who ever invented, constructed or came up with this game is a gem in my mind.  However you did it, please keep working on other games because once I hit the 300 level (and I know I will...) I need to know I have new territory to conquer, a new game to get hooked on, I don't want to be left without a game plan (yes...spoken like a true addict!!!)
Now for those of you who have never tried Candy Crush...be aware of these few things:
      1.  You probably will become addicted so be very careful!!!
      2.  Or on the other hand, take a chance and roll the dice, see if you like it.
      3.  Be prepared to give up precious time because you've got to get to the next level!!!
But here's to the good things in life, here's to just having a little innocent fun, here's to not having idleness every day, here's to waking up knowing a challenge is just ahead sometime today.
Now that I came clean on this addiction...there is yet another one I must confess about...yes this one also is good clean fun, no challenges just lots of interesting things happening.  Not going to reveal...so stay tuned to this column to see what could possibly take up the other half of my life!!!

Venturing Into a New Territory and Enjoying All the Perks!!!

So starting out with good news is always an upper, off to a good start, just good karma...I am going to be a grandma!!!  Say what???  I can still clearly remember the scary and "uncomfortable" labor pains I had, the anticipation and anxiety of pink or blue, boy or girl and all the pre/post thinking and questions like, "how am I going to take care of this baby?" and "I now have someone that is totally relying on me" and "will I ever sleep again?" and this is just for starters.  But the good news is, I delivered my baby in 5 hours, not bad for your first one, I was kind of feeling like a champ on that note, I was feeling like, my body really was groomed for having babies FAST.   Yeah, it was the beginning of the 80's and pregnancy, labor and delivery were very different "way back then".  And... jumping back to the present... so now my baby is having her own baby and the other thought that keeps creeping into my mind is...where did the time go?? I really don 't know where it did go but what I do know is that having a grand baby on the way means only one thing...this baby will need clothes and this is one possessed grandma that plans on clothing this child from head to toe.
We learned of our daughters pregnancy in the beginning of March.  After a big gasp, and one of these..."really?", along with a big family hug full of tears...it finally sunk it.  The gears in my brain start turning and I realize...I have a new "arena", "untouched territory", a new "avenue" to venture down.   It's been quite a while since I have shopped for baby clothes but I truly think I can see this challenge all the way through to her due date in September.  In fact I know I can take this challenge to the utmost level, I can take it to the moon and back, let no baby department be untouched by my eyes and rest assured that I will do my grand baby proud with lots and lots of clothes...mission will be accomplished!!!
So my baby shopping debuted this past April 19th.  I'm going to let you see how much I have bought, but no sharing prices on anything this time, but I will be focusing on the number of items I have purchased.  So here we go:
*Downtown craft show-adorable tie-dye bib and burp towel, so cute I just could not resist.
*Local craft show-beautiful blue & brown hand knit sweater for fall with a hood and white buttons down the front...oops I forgot, ITS A BOY!!!    There is no way I could walk past this and not buy it!!
*Macy's-really cute 3 piece set includes a top, bodysuit and pants, gray and white strip, thought the gray was a little different color, does everything have to be blue?
*TJMaxx-first trip to TJ's I bought a 3 month long "onesy" with little cars ".  What granny can resist?
*TJMaxx-second trip to TJ's we buy a little gray(Ralph Lauren)polo shirt(grandpa insists), a short red, white and blue "onesy" trimmed in denim, and a blue and white long "onesy" by the designer Isaac Mizrahi...(who knew he designed baby clothes?)
*TJMaxx-and third trip there into my cart goes a gray and white "onesy" with monkeys on the feet, and another gray "onesy" with puppies splashed all over...again irresistible!!!
*Kohl's-this time going under the radar and just left of  center because I purchased a yellow and white "onesy" with bears on the feet.  We need to shake it up just a bit...go yellow!!!
*Kohl's-second shopping trip and again back to the "onesy".  This time a trio... turquoise and white one with a submarine on the "tush", a blue and white one with a shark smack dab on the "tush", and one adorned with football helmets.  Plus a short "onesy" in a bold royal turquoise with a cute polo collar.
 * Gymboree- 2 short "onesy", one is powder blue and one is red, white and blue with a baseball on the front, tis the season!!!
*H & M-a little white long sleeve t-shirt with 4 adorable trucks on the front, so cute because the trucks have faces!!!
*Burlington Coat Factory-a gray short "onesy" with blue stripped sleeves and it even comes with a pair of blue socks, an adorable "hoodie" sweatshirt with some of Noah's Ark animals on the front.  Another gray and red "onesy" and this one has a firehouse dog on the front...oy this one made me melt!!!
*Dillards-the cutest polar fleece outfit...brown pants and a red top with a little bear on the front...so sweet.  And the final item was just bought...
  *Local art fair-a tie-dye t-shirt for a little jazzy/ 70's style which we just couldn't resist.
So that is my list thus far.  I think I will give myself a pat on the back, not bad at all for only 3 months worth of shopping and I can assure you that I am far from done with this shopping spree. There are many more baby departments that I have yet to conquer, many more sales that I need to seek out, and lots of unfilled drawers here that are just waiting to get stuffed with new baby garb.
I call myself possessed, focused and on a mission regarding this baby shopping.  So many places to shop, so many things to buy and this granny hasn't even touched upon online shopping, that is a whole new area totally untouched by my human hands.
So come along with me and enjoy this new journey of mine for the next couple of months as I scope out still more new and exciting baby items.  Whether it be the mall, art shows or online shopping, this grand baby is gonna have style...it might be a little throw back from the 70's, or maybe more of a "blue-jean" baby or possibly just a "Gap Kid", but at least this granny put a little bit of her style into the mix!!!

As always...hoping you enjoyed!!!

Enjoy the Ride on my Shopping Journey!!!

So let's start out with the really good news.  What could be better than the smell of spring in the air?  What could be better than pedicure and flip flop season right around the corner?  What could be better than cranking open my sun roof in my car to the tunes of the 70's and dusting the cobwebs out of my sun porch in anticipation of watching my rose bush  blooming?  Yes this is a pretty impressive list of "great, good and awesome" things coming my way but wait til you see my "very" impressive list of bargains I have snagged over the long, cold winter season.  This encompasses three cities, a lot of leg work and a lot of fun.  On that note, so much to tell, let's get started!!!
I love Nordstrom Rack!!!  I live about 40 miles from one but it's worth a trip any time.  They have a brand that I just love called "Bobeau" which is described  as "casual, contemporary, chic...free spirited Bohemian hippie", yes that's me!!!  Actually, confession time, 2 trips to the rack in a month...yep deals are just that good!!!   First trip purchased: a bright orange sweatshirt with funky holes all down the front, retail for $58 but there is a big red tag saying 78% savings and selling for $12.97, next purchase: a gray and white stripped long tunic top that buttons down the front and has a hood(perfect with leggings and boots), retails for $52, down to $26.97 and with that big red tag that says 70% savings down to $15.60.
Second trip to the rack... first purchase is a light sweatshirt trimmed in lace, perfect with jeans and flats by the brand "Democracy".  Retails for $58, down to $34.97, then $23.20 and lastly my 75% savings down to $14.50.  Second purchase is a ribbed black and tan sweater with an open front(I always add a decorative pin to the open front) by another brand I love "Fever", all I see is the red tag and 75% savings down to $17.  Also purchased a bracelet but that is just icing on my cake.  So both trips together with my savings of $137.43, my receipt says that I saved more than I spent and that I'm a "shopping genius".  How nice!!!
Onto JCPs...their brand "JoeFresh" is bright, fashion forward, a nice approach to style.  When they move merchandise, they move it!!!  I bought a great lime green and blue stripped waffle style Henley top, retail for $16 down to $3.97.  And a matching beautiful lime green cable sweater(looks hand made), retails for $29 marked down to $6.97...yes a savings of $34.06.
Let's talk about SteinMart...just gonna list 'em:,
      1. Great crocheted vest, pinks, blacks, greens...$12.44.
      2. Beautiful "Peck & Peck" black & white stripped blazer, retails for $29.95, half of, $14.97.
      3.  Love the brand "Cha Cha Vente", forget the description, they were marked down 50% and then another half of, first top, SteinMart price $24.99, I paid  $5.97, second top, SteinMart price $24.99 and I paid $7.47.  Total paid was $43.71 with a savings of $215.15...YES!!!
And the shopping bargain bonanza continues...I will be brief and to the point.
My love affair with Bob's shoes continues: 1st pair at Steinmart bought for $19.97 savings of $30, second pair bought at Shoe Carnival for $25.00(camouflage...cool), yes a very good price.***Crocs,(love them) flats in bright pink(with furry insides) bought for $14.99***Bass shoe store, pink flats(different than Crocs, these have silver embellishments) bought for $16.99***Chicos outlet, cranberry slim pants bought for $14***Dillards, 2 necklaces each for $6, they were half off***DSW Adrienne Vittadini black suede heels,$69.94 down to $41.96.
So that is my shopping extravaganza thus far.  I'm patting myself on the back for a job well done.  I want to share others great fortune, good finds and bargains here in this column...please e-mail to harleydiva@bex.net for a reader appreciation column.  Tell me all about your good deals, you deserve a pat on the back also!!!  Could there be any bargains out there I have
missed???  Looking forward to hearing for you!!!

Mother Nature is a Player

Today here in the Midwest we are having a "snow day", which means no school(great for teachers), lots of snow(at least 7 inches), wind(swirling snow drifts everywhere), ice ice baby and lump it all together and you get a Level 3 from our local sheriff's department.   Translation...stay off the roads!!!
Twenty five years ago, a "snow day" scene in my house with my 2 kids would have gone something like this..."Mom, can we go out and build a snowman?", "Mom, can we invited friends over to play?", "Mom, what's for lunch?", and then my favorite..."Mom, we're bored!!!"  Yes memories of the old days tend to warm my heart, bring a joyous smile to my face and a little tear to my eye. And now fast forward to the present when there is a "snow day", and this is what it means...a day off from work(yes!!!), get into leisure mode, stay in jammies all morning and slowly work yourself into afternoon and evening mode... kinda like a "Norman Rockwell" scene.
Some will say that a fresh snowfall is breathtakingly beautiful, the trees, rooftops and sidewalks dusted with snowflakes, winter birds grazing the bird feeders and the nighttime moon shining beams down on the snow...hold it right there!!!  Give me a lounge chair, an ice tea and a view of the beach in St. Thomas and that is how I would like to spend my winter...nuff said!!!
Speaking of cold...onto the red hot bargains I have found on my "happy trails" of shopping.  Jumping right into it, SteinMart, 2 deals worth bragging about.  First one is a great vest I have had my eye on for months.  It looks VERY handmade, very "bought at an art show" look to it.  Lots of patchwork knitted together with yarns of fall colors and a hint of glitter all through.  The vest retails for $66, SteinMart price was $34.99, on sale for $25,99 and then 25% off brings it down to $19.45...home it goes with me.  And how can I pass on a BOBS shoe deal?  I can't!!!  This pair of BOBS retails for $50, SteinMart price $39.94 and on sale for $19.97.  Well, hey I can always use another pair of BOBS !!! (spoken from someone with an addiction to Bob).
Onto JCP...you can't go wrong with a pair of Liz Claiborne corduroy pants, a beautiful richly ruby color, sits on the waist and nicely fitted through hips and thighs with a straight leg.  Retail...$40, marked down to 19.99 and again to $9.99.  The cashier also confirmed to me what a great bargain it was...thanks!!!  Okay I will take the $30.03 savings, yes I love when that happens!!!
And now for a famous saying..."I'm saving the best for last." At Dillards... picture a beautiful short chocolate brown leather coat with short ruffles around the arm cuffs and bottom.  Two pockets and a zipper down the front.  The coat is not real leather, but it FEELS so soft and supple and it LOOKS SO REAL.  It is a perfect fit and is designed to wear with jeans...very casual, very stylish and very sporty.  It retails for $59 and was on sale for $20.65.  Passing this coat up was certainly not an option for me!!!   There is always room in my coat closet for just one more!!!
So let the snow fall, let the wind blow, (I guess the ice could melt), as long as my Jeep can get me through any Level 3, I will still continue to blaze the trail to the bargains, I will still fight the elements to fulfill my need for bargains and I will still brave the cold temperatures so a good bargain does not go unseen by me.  Trying to tame Mother Nature, she can play hard but...let's pull back the reins, ignore what the groundhog said and pray spring does not forget about us!!!
